Do you have Broken, Cracked, Chipped or Fractured Tooth?

A cracked or broken tooth can be the cause of major embarrassment, be painful and may well affect your ability to chew. Placing dental crowns is one of the most common tooth substance replacement techniques. In this fast-paced world when it is hard to find time for oneself, several appointments for a single dental procedure can be slightly inconvenient.

Your dental team at Mundaring Dental Centre understand the challenges of combining a busy lifestyle and caring for your dental health. Therefore, we offer you one of the most advanced tooth substance replacement solutions- CEREC fillings and crowns! These porcelain restorations, often called “Same Day Crowns”, have come up as a revolution in the field of dentistry. CEREC crowns and fillings are the products of digital dentistry and are designed and fabricated with the help of computers and 3D imaging technology.

What to expect when you choose CEREC crowns?

Thanks to the latest innovations in 3D imaging technology, you can expect just a single appointment at Mundaring Dental Centre to have your damaged tooth prepared, the new porcelain filling or crown designed, scanned, milled and cemented! The added benefit being that you will only require one dose of local anaesthetic to have the procedure completed painlessly!

Here is the list of the events that take place to deliver you the CEREC crown on the same day:

  1. Just like the conventional procedure for dental crown fabrication, our dental team will record an impression of your teeth and the adjoining area. The impression will be in the form of a 3D scan that is transferred to the monitor attached. No more gagging or claustrophobia as this impression is taken digitally.
  2. The dentist will then analyse the scanned image of the tooth on the monitor and will explain about the filling or crown that is to be fabricated for you.
  3. You get a deeper understanding of what your dental restoration will look like after the fabrication process is complete.
  4. Thereafter, the data concerning your impression and new filling or crown will be sent to the machine that will create the restoration according to the data fed into the system by the dentist.
  5. You take a seat in the client lounge while your restoration is being “created” by the milling machine.
  6. Once the base structure of a CEREC restoration is created, it undergoes a series of finishing and polishing processes to achieve a smooth and glossy finish, for a porcelain crown or filling which feels natural.
  7. You return to the dental chair in the surgery and the crown or filling is fitted, cemented and checked for comfort and accuracy of bite in your mouth.

What are the benefits of CEREC crowns and fillings?

Beautiful Natural Looking Crowns

1. Conservative in nature

This is because the amount of tooth substance reduced is minimal. Hence as much of your natural tooth as possible is preserved.

2. Durable and compatible

The digital imaging which picks up every minute detail of your tooth’s anatomy along with precision in fabrication contribute to the durability of CEREC crowns and fillings. In addition, The material has excellent biocompatibility with your natural teeth. The strength of the material means it offers sound longevity when cared for with regular cleans and check-ups.

3. You don’t need a temporary crown

As the whole procedure occurs within a single appointment at our dental surgery, there is no need to place a temporary crown and wait two weeks as necessary with conventional, laboratory manufactured porcelain restorations.

4. Completed in a single appointment

There is no need to visit your dentist twice or thrice for a dental crown. CEREC technology savea you time and offers you maximum comfort. Due to the functionality of the digital imaging technology used, you don’t need to have physical impressions/moulds taken of your teeth. It also eliminates the need for a bite registration. This makes the whole process more comfortable, especially if you are one of the many people who are uncomfortable with impressions being taken or has a strong gag reflex.

5. They look natural

Your custom made CEREC restorations are milled from tooth coloured porcelain which comes in a variety of shades to match the natural colour of your teeth. No more obvious and unsightly dark fillings.

6. The Restoration Material of choice to replace worn, cracked or lost fillings

CEREC technology is not just useful in a dental emergency when you suffer a cracked or broken tooth or a lost filling and need it fixed quickly and conveniently. The old mercury fillings many of us have in our teeth are strong, but also expand and contract every time you have something hot or cold, just like the mercury in a thermometer rises and falls with changes in temperature. Our teeth, however, are not very flexible, and this thermal instability leads to cracks in your natural teeth which have been filled with the now outdated amalgam mercury material! Due to the strength and durability of the porcelain, CEREC restorations are our material of choice when you either need or choose to have old and potentially leaking mercury or composite fillings replaced.

7. Healthier Teeth

Are you concerned about the negative effect the leaching mercury in your mouth is having on your overall health? Are you embarrassed to smile as your back teeth have old, dark and unsightly restorations? You now have the choice to have the old mercury fillings removed and replaced with tooth coloured porcelain restorations as a health-wise and aesthetically pleasing option. You are able to make an informed decision in regards to replacing those old mercury fillings with strong, biocompatible, durable and aesthetically pleasing CEREC fillings and crowns at Mundaring Dental Centre, where we believe in a holistic approach to your dental care.
